Israel
Have your say...
The modern State of Israel has its roots in the Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael), a concept central to Judaism for over three thousand years.
After World War I, the League of Nations approved the British Mandate of Palestine with the intent of creating a 'national home for the Jewish people'.
In 1947, the United Nations approved the partition of the Mandate of Palestine into two states, one Jewish and one Arab. The Arab League rejected the plan, but on 14 May 1948 the Jewish provisional government declared Israel's independence.
The new country's victory in the subsequent Arab-Israeli War expanded the borders of the Jewish state beyond those in the UN Partition Plan.
Since then, Israel has been in conflict with many of its neighbouring Arab countries, resulting in several major wars and decades of violence that continue to this day.
Since its foundation, Israel's boundaries, and even the State's very right to exist, have been subject to dispute, especially among its Arab neighbours. However, Israel has signed peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan, and efforts are being made to reach a permanent accord with the Palestinians.

I believe that ALL the land
I believe that ALL the land of Israel was given to the Jews forever by Yarwe. I am british learning hebrew love the language after al Yeshua would have spoken hebrew and aramaic at home. shalom

First, "better for" could refer to the lesser of two evils. I wanted to consider who would be positively good for Israel, and I couldn't be confident about JM, but much less so for BO. In fact I did, and still do have some serious concerns regarding the latter, and what he is really about. Now that he's in, I believe we need to pray more than ever before...for Israel, and for the whole world. This might sound like a cliche, but I assure you I don't intend it as one: we live in unprecedented times...
Hi Akin. First, I’m not sure
Hi Akin. First, I’m not sure what the difference is between “good for” and “better for” Israel? For me, between the two, I would rather have McCain. Partly because Viv’s news blogs on this site were very helpful, but also because I have been closely watching the news! One good example was when I was actually listening ‘live’ to BBC radio 4 where they were broadcasting Obama’s address to the Jewish Public Affairs Committee in New York. He clearly and repeatedly said that he would never let Jerusalem be divided and pass out of Jewish control. Within a WEEK, he was back-tracking and denying he had said it. For me, the BIGGER issue is that the USA is severely weakened, possibly fatally wounded in fact. Her capacity to be a natural help and defender of Israel may well be coming to an end.

2008As the US Presidential elections approach, one very pertinent question is: who will be good for Israel (not which is better for Israel as this could be very ambiguous)? I am not confident about either to be honest, because the more predictable of the candidates does not appear to love Israel or be particularly committed to her security. The other I just cannot trust, whatever he says. He strikes me more as a highly ambitious smooth operator whose real agenda may not be very easily discerned from his rhetoric. My conclusion is this: the watchmen for Israel must "look up to the hills - Psalm 121" on behalf of Israel. These are very dangerous and uncertain times. Nevertheless, the Lord knows the secret agenda of the "kings" (known and covert) of the earth; but His agenda will stand.
We are living in the times of
We are living in the times of what the prophet Zechariah said, Zech. 12: 2-3 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a VERY HEAVY stone for all peoples; all who heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.

It's hard work, with very discouraging moments. But it is a major job for the hour we live in. And it is worth the labour. Let every one who is participating in this work be encouraged!
Israel was called the Church
Israel was called the Church in the wilderness (Acts 7:38), and Yeshua said He'll beuild His Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. This Church is ACTUALLY made up of Jews and Gentiles because He has demolished the dividing wall, and brought those of us that were afar off into the commonwealth of Israel; we have been grafted in, and He HAS made out of both peoples ONE NEW MAN in Himself (Eph 2:11 - 22). This is present REALITY in Yeshua - He has done it. So the Church that Yeshua is building is The One New Man. However, it our privilege to WORK to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. The peace He achieved needs to be worked out as Jewish and gentile believers unite like never before. Not only this is our privilege in these exciting times, but we the privilege to turn to the Jewish Nation - the Church in the Wilderness, the father (in a sense) of the Church that now is. There must be a turning of the heart of the fathers to the children, and vice versa...Amen.

That's SHOCKING! If you've not yet done so, please READ IT! How can the only truly free democracy in the Middle East be sidelined by bodies such as the USA, EU, UN and Russia?! We must pray and intercede before ha Shem...

We must also persevere in the work of turning the hearts of the fathers to the children, and vice versa. And Israel is like a father to the church...
We must continue to pray
We must continue to pray fervently for Israel and genuinely love the Jewish people in practical ways if possible. God has not forgotton his ancient people. If we love the Lord and know that he will rule in Jerusalem some day we should obey him and be in his will. It is when we are in his will that he will bless us, Amen.
Today, Israel has exchanged 5
Today, Israel has exchanged 5 convicted Islamic terrorists for the bodies of 2 kidnapped Israeli soldiers. Is this not proof that Israel has more respect for life, even in death, than those who would seek to destroy her? Let's all pray that these 5 released men of evil don't get a chance to take more Israeli lives with their new found 'freedom', no?
